Williamsport

Williamsport circa 1806 ...

When Williamsport was formed in 1806 the forests of Lycoming County were it’s greatest natural resource. Williamsport became a city in 1866 and was producing 350 million board feet of lumber per day.

The lumber industry defined the city of Williamsport on a national stage. The white pine coming from the area was building cities throughout the northeast like New York, Washington, and Baltimore, and the timber boom was building Williamsport.

Muncy

Muncy in the late 1700's

Pioneered and settled as early as 1752, the borough of Muncy was originally layed out in 1797 here on the west branch of the Susquehanna. Its name was derived from a tribe of Deleware Indians named "Muncys" who inhabited the area.

Approaching Muncys colonial revival red brick post office, it may be easy to forget that this is where four different indian paths came together in the Pennsylvania wilderness; Shamokin, Whyolusing, Whyoming, and Towanda.
